George Clooney, the Oscar-winning actor, has undergone a major hair transformation for his new role in the Broadway adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck. The 63-year-old dyed his signature gray hair to a dark brown to portray the wartime journalist Edward R. Murrow, a character he previously played in the 2005 film he directed and starred in.
While excited to bring the film to the stage, Clooney isn’t entirely happy with the change. During a recent interview on CBS Mornings on April 21, he admitted, “I know it’s not good. You never get used to it,” referring to his new hair color. Clooney also revealed that his wife, Amal Clooney, isn’t fond of the look either. “It’s not my favorite look, and my wife, she thinks it’s funny,” he said.
Their 7-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, also found the transformation amusing. Clooney joked, “Honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dyeing your hair.”
Good Night, and Good Luck opened at New York City’s Winter Garden Theater on April 3. However, Amal had to miss the opening night to stay with their children. Clooney, who married Amal in 2014, shared that they have a well-organized parenting routine.
“The play is kind of a good schedule because you’re working at night,” he explained on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in February. “You get to see the kids during the day, so it’s OK.” Clooney added that Alexander and Ella “love” exploring New York City. “Come on, how do you not love this? It’s New York City,” he said with a smile.
