TikTok Sparks Interest in Non-Surgical Hair Systems for Hair Loss

A series of viral TikTok videos showing dramatic hair transformations have captured the internet’s attention.

Users have been amazed by before-and-after clips showcasing a non-surgical hair loss solution that requires no medication. One video, which has received over 260,000 views, features Brad Baker, 40, revealing his bald scalp before appearing moments later with a full head of curls, looking noticeably younger.

The treatment, known as hair systems, involves realistic wigs made from individually woven strands of hair. Starting at about £150, these systems are growing in popularity across the UK. They offer a safer, less invasive alternative to hair transplant surgery, which often involves long recovery periods, strict aftercare, and lifelong medication.

Nick Mackenzie, an ambassador for hair system specialist Lordhair, shared his personal transformation on TikTok, gaining more than 24,900 views. Nick, who began losing his hair at 17, shows how in just 30 seconds he changes his appearance. In the video, he marks his new hairline with a fabric pen, applies adhesive tape, and blends the hair piece seamlessly with his remaining hair. His caption simply reads: “Hair: champion.”

Brad Baker, an award-winning hairstylist from Clapham, London, has experienced hair loss since his early teens. As the founder of B-Spoke Systems, whose slogan is “hair loss never looked so good,” he aims to challenge the stigma around male pattern baldness.

Baker described losing his hair at a young age as feeling like “losing his identity.” After trying creams, tablets, and home remedies without success, he committed to wearing hair systems full-time in 2022.

“Hair is a form of self-expression,” he said. “When I was growing up, it was the era of the mohawk—something I could only dream of. Now I wear a system not to hide, but to express the real me.”

The hair systems can be made from either real or synthetic hair and are attached to the scalp with adhesive. This adhesive is scrubbed off and reapplied every three to six months. The systems can withstand showers, sleeping, and exercise, although Brad warns that these activities can reduce the system’s lifespan.

“You should maintain the system just like natural hair,” Baker explained. “Chlorine and sweat buildup mean more frequent washing. But the technology keeps improving. I had stopped wearing wigs for a while, but today’s systems are better than ever, helping people look and feel great.”

Male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, affects between 40 and 50 percent of men worldwide. It results from genetic factors and hormonal imbalances that gradually destroy hair follicles.

Baker, who began losing hair at 13, said he was willing to try anything to regain his confidence.
