Colson Smith, best known for playing PC Craig Tinker on Coronation Street, has revealed the results of his recent hair transplant. The 26-year-old actor, who joined the ITV soap at just 12 years old, shared his excitement about the transformation, calling it a major boost to his confidence.
Smith has been a familiar face on the show for over a decade. His character Craig has taken part in key storylines, including becoming a police officer and navigating several troubled relationships. Last year, viewers saw Craig struggle with the departure of his on-screen mother, Beth, portrayed by Lisa George, after her 13-year run on the series.
In January, Smith confirmed he would be leaving Coronation Street. He revealed he was informed of his character’s exit in the autumn of 2023. In a heartfelt statement, he wrote, “I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14-year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.” Rumors have since emerged that his character may be written off in a dramatic summer storyline.
Off screen, the actor has gone through significant personal changes. He is reported to have lost over 10 stone through running, according to Leicestershire Live. Now, he is proudly sharing another milestone—his hair transplant journey.
Smith underwent the procedure at the Farjo Hair Institute after being referred by fellow Coronation Street star Alan Halsall. He started his consultations in November 2023, with the transplant completed in July 2024.
“From the moment I met Dr. Farjo, I knew I was in safe hands,” Smith said. “I’m genuinely so happy. The confidence boost this has given me is unmatched. I’m getting compliments all the time, and I love it.”
He expressed joy about the visible results and said he’s excited to see further progress. Speaking about his experience with hair loss, Smith opened up in an Instagram post from October 2024. “A transplant has been on my agenda since I first noticed my hair loss at age 22,” he shared. “Losing my hair so young was hard to accept. But I feel so much better and more confident now that I’ve taken action to get back my strawberry blonde hair.”
On his On The Sofa podcast, Smith discussed changing attitudes about hair restoration. “There’s definitely less stigma around hair transplants now,” he said. He also encouraged others to consider the option. “It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m more than happy to share my journey, because I know hair loss affects so many people.”
