Jamie Lee Curtis is embracing a new look and newfound confidence after a recent haircut and a makeup-free appearance. On April 16, the 66-year-old Freaky Friday actress shared a mirror selfie on Instagram, showcasing her fresh haircut and her natural, makeup-free face.
In the post, Curtis stood with one hand on her hip, smiling and wearing large black-framed glasses. She captioned the photo, “I did fine and obviously it’s not a big deal but when I have my hair cut the way I love it and the way it suits me, it gives me the freedom to exist with no make-up and very little fuss.”
The Borderlands actor expressed how the new look gave her confidence she hadn’t felt before: “It gives me a confidence that I never had in my life and I am grateful for that.”
Curtis also thanked her longtime hairstylist, Sean James, for his role in shaping her new style. “He has been in charge of this haircut for a LONG time,” she said.
Reflecting on her transformation, Curtis added, “I woke up this morning and thought, ‘OK, now I look like me.’” She has long been vocal about rejecting the pressures of beauty standards, including her 2002 More magazine cover, where she posed without makeup or styling.
“I said, ‘I will do it if you do a picture of me with no makeup, no clothes, no styling, no hair, nothing,’” Curtis recalled. “Then you do me completely dressed up, fully made up, glammed out, and you tell how long it took, how much money it costs, how many people it took to get me to look like that.”
Curtis, known for her outspoken criticism of the beauty industry’s unrealistic standards, added, “I have been a vocal critic, and we’ll go to my grave with it, that there is a cosmeceutical industrial complex telling women they are not enough without these bulls— ideas of face augmentation, fillers, injections, lifts, all of the glow-ups that these women are doing.”
Fans can see Curtis on the big screen again when Freaky Friday is released in theaters on August 8.
