Kelsea Ballerini knows how to keep her hair healthy while still looking great! The 31-year-old country singer surprised her fans on Thursday, April 17, by revealing in a TikTok video that her hair wasn’t all her own.
In the video, Ballerini shared, “Protected my hair, felt like Hannah Montana, and got the after-show nickname Rufus.” She added a nostalgic touch by referencing Miley Cyrus’s iconic Disney character. The video, set to the song “This Is the Life,” also featured Ballerini saying, “Last night of tour shed .”
The video started with the singer dressed in a tie-dye T-shirt and sweatpants, yet looking fully glam. A hairstylist could be seen using a Q-tip and adhesive remover along her hairline. The fast-forwarded video showed the stylist working quickly, eventually loosening the wig to remove it.
As the process continued, Ballerini chatted with someone off-camera, and received a hug during the seamless wig removal. After the wig was taken off, a lightly colored wig cap remained. Once the cap was removed, it revealed Ballerini’s real hair—two neatly braided pigtails tucked into each other to keep her natural hair compact.
She then used a makeup wipe to remove her eyeshadow, blush, and foundation. The video ended with more hugs as the stylist cleaned the remaining adhesive from her forehead.
Fans were shocked by the transformation in the comments. One user praised the hairstylist, saying, “The hairstylist who installed this KILLED it. It was unclockable.” Another commented, “IT WAS A WIG??? GURRLLL IT LOOKED SO REAL.” One fan, who saw Ballerini “up close and personal” in Seattle, couldn’t believe it: “Whoever did this install of the wig needs a raise because omg!!”
In January 2024, Ballerini shared with PEOPLE about her hair care routine, especially after cutting off a significant amount of length the year before. She described the decision as part of her “healing era,” saying, “Your hair grows how many inches a year? A couple? Think about that. The hair here has seen a lot, and I was like: you gotta go.”
After debuting a long bob, the singer explained her big chop was about taking care of herself. “I really put my hair through it. I have for a decade. I’m doing all the things. And it needed a little attention.”
