Following a lavish 58th birthday that included a Mediterranean yacht vacation, Salma Hayek is embracing her gray hair with confidence. The actress, known for her roles in Desperado and Fools Rush In, told Allure magazine that her hair simply “doesn’t like to be dyed.”
“I look better with healthy hair that’s white,” Hayek said.
Hayek has always been open about her changing hair color. Last year, during her birthday celebrations, she posted a bikini photo on Instagram with the caption, “Yellow bikini + White hair = perfect combination,” written in both English and Spanish.
She is not alone in celebrating natural aging. Many celebrities have spoken out about embracing their gray hair. In an interview with People last year, retired supermodel Tyra Banks shared that she was excited to turn 50.
“I remember when gray hair was something you had to hide,” Banks said. “Now I see women saying, ‘I am gray, and it’s beautiful.'”
Actress Andie MacDowell has also worn silver hair proudly for years. Speaking to The New York Times Style Magazine, she said the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged her to accept her natural hair.
“When my hair started growing out during the pandemic, I felt like it was time to embrace my age and feel comfortable with where I was in life,” she explained. “I didn’t see many women with silver hair, so I looked to men like George Clooney and Hugh Grant for inspiration. They looked great.”
MacDowell added that going gray made her stand out in the industry. “I think it made me more unique and powerful,” she said.
