An 11-year-old boy from Scarborough has undergone his first haircut ever, inspired by a desire to support children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. Aaron, whose knee-length hair was cut for the first time, plans to donate over a meter of hair to the Little Princess Trust, which creates real hair wigs for young cancer patients.
Aaron’s inspiration came from visiting his sister, Julianna, on the oncology ward, where he met several children who had lost their hair. Reflecting on his decision, Aaron said, “I’m very happy and I’ve got a feeling someone out there is going to be very happy too.”
Aaron’s father, Adam, recounted the early conversations that led to this moment: “When we were visiting those hospitals, he was around three and was asking questions about why children there didn’t have any hair. So we had those conversations with him and he understood that concept from quite early on. He always said, ‘When I get my hair cut short like yours Daddy, can I give it to them?’”
Despite feeling “quite nervous” before the haircut, Aaron was excited about the new style and the positive impact of his donation. “It is the first time I’ve ever had my hair cut, but I’m also excited about it,” he shared. “It’s a new chapter in my life.” Known at school as “the boy with long hair,” this haircut marks a significant change for Aaron.
Julianna, reacting to her brother’s transformation, said, “It’s weird to see him with short hair because I’m so used to it, but it looks really good.”
In addition to donating his hair, Aaron has raised nearly £2,000, which will be split between the Little Princess Trust and the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, further supporting those in need.
