Question of the Week: Share Your Most Cringe-Worthy Hairstyle

by lily

At KAXE, sharing personal stories has been a cornerstone of our community since 1976, connecting us in a world that often feels isolated. This week, we invite you to reminisce about your most cringe-worthy hairstyle moments. From DIY disasters to questionable trends, we want to hear all about your hair horror stories!

Here’s What You’ve Told Us:

Kari Hedlund, KAXE’s Music Director, reflected on her sisters’ iconic ’80s looks with a touch of humor: “Here are my favorite cringe styles from my sisters. Yes, I’ll throw them under the bus every once in a while. Amy’s up-and-down bangs and Jen’s triangle hair are unforgettable!”

Liz from Tamarack shared a memorable misstep: “I had a Dorothy Hamill haircut, but it was permed. ‘Nuff said. Best forgotten.”

Jim Gallagher, a dedicated volunteer, recalled a nostalgic hair blunder: “In the mid-60s, hair tonic and oils were all the rage among some men. Before long hair became trendy, boys used products like Brill Cream and Vitalis. Combine that with fifth-grade school photos and unsupervised boys, and you get some pretty awkward snapshots that will never see the light of day!”

Penny Holcomb, KAXE’s Business Manager, described her senior year disaster: “I got a perm right before my senior trip. After a week of heat, sun, and camping, I had my senior photos on the same day. It was not a good look.”

Morey from Big Sandy texted in with a nostalgic twist: “In the summer of 1958, my grandpa gave my brother and me Mohawks. We proudly wore them to the first day of school that fall—until my dad buzzed them off.”

Brett Short summed it up with a classic line: “My Grampy used to say the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut? Two weeks.”

We appreciate everyone who has shared their stories. Remember, it’s through these shared experiences that we connect and understand each other better. Keep the stories coming!
