George Clooney has shocked fans with a dramatic hair transformation, swapping his signature silver locks for a rich, medium brown shade. The 63-year-old actor was spotted in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood on March 9, sporting the new brunet look paired with off-white chinos, a black leather jacket, Adidas sneakers, and sunglasses. The makeover is for his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, which begins previews on March 12 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.
This change is in preparation for his role in the stage adaptation of the 2005 film, Good Night, and Good Luck. Clooney, who co-wrote both the film and the play with Grant Heslov, will take on the role of CBS news journalist Edward R. Murrow, a character that earned David Strathairn an Oscar nomination in 2006. Clooney originally portrayed news producer Fred Friendly in the film but will step into Murrow’s shoes for the stage production.
The play, which opens on April 3, also stars a diverse cast, including Mac Brandt, Ilana Glazer, Clark Gregg, and Georgia Heers, among others.
In a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Clooney humorously admitted that memorizing lines for the Broadway show has been a challenge. Despite his experience as a seasoned actor, he joked about his struggle to recall lines, referencing his children and quipping, “I don’t remember my kids’ names!” He also recalled his earlier years filming ER, where he could memorize long medical dialogues with ease. Clooney’s transformation marks a new chapter as he embraces the stage in a role that promises to captivate audiences.
