George Clooney is making a bold change just ahead of his Broadway debut. The actor, known for his signature silver fox hair, stepped out in New York City this month with a completely new brunette look. His new hair color is a stark departure from his iconic silver tones, and the transformation caught many by surprise.
Clooney debuted the darker hue while wearing a casual outfit of tan jeans and Adidas sneakers. His fresh look comes just days before he is set to take the stage in Good Night, and Good Luck, a Broadway adaptation of his 2005 film, where he will play the role of journalist Edward R. Murrow—switching from his film role as Fred Friendly.
In an interview with The New York Times in February, Clooney humorously admitted that his family isn’t too thrilled about his new hair color. He joked that his wife, Amal, would not be a fan, saying, “Nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair.” He added that his kids would likely “laugh at me nonstop.”
While Clooney has long embraced his silver hair, he also shared that he had never considered dyeing it until recently. In a 2015 interview, he revealed that he’s always believed in aging gracefully, saying, “You can’t try to look younger. You just have to try to look the best you can at the age you are and not worry about it.”
Though Clooney’s decision to try something new may be a departure from his usual style, it’s clear he’s not afraid to embrace change as he prepares for his next chapter on stage.
